🚨 THE MARKET MAY BE READING THIS CPI COMPLETELY WRONG.
🔥 3.4% CPI ISN’T THE REAL PROBLEM — WHAT THE FED DOES NEXT IS.
U.S. August CPI came in at 3.4% YoY, unchanged from the previous month.
At first glance, that doesn’t look particularly scary.
But look deeper.
Headline CPI rose 0.4% MoM, while Core CPI increased 0.3% MoM and 2.4% YoY.
Now compare the recent trend:
April: 3.3%
May: 3.8%
June: 4.2%
July: 3.5%
August: 3.4%
Latest release: 3.4%
Yes, inflation has cooled from its recent peak.
But there’s a problem:
⚠️ Inflation is getting stuck above 3%.
And the Fed’s target is still 2%.
Now add another piece to the puzzle.
The latest U.S. jobs report showed 162,000 jobs added, beating expectations.
That gives us a combination the market cannot ignore:
Sticky inflation + strong labor market = more room for the Fed to stay aggressive.
And that’s exactly why expectations for another 25bps rate hike are rising.
But here’s where things get interesting.
📌 WHAT HAPPENS TO GOLD AND BITCOIN?
If the Fed hikes rates:
Higher rates → stronger yields → potentially stronger USD → tighter liquidity.
That would normally be short-term bearish for both Gold and Bitcoin.
But Gold has another story.
Part of the inflation pressure is coming from energy and fuel prices.
If energy prices keep inflation elevated while geopolitical risks remain high, investors may continue turning to Gold as both a safe haven and inflation hedge.
Bitcoin is different.
BTC is much more sensitive to liquidity expectations.
So I’m not rushing to call the next direction.
My expectation is:
VOLATILITY FIRST. DIRECTION SECOND.
👉 My view?
3.4% CPI isn’t what scares me.
What matters is this combination
**CPI stays above 3%
Employment remains strong
Fed keeps tightening**
If all three remain in place, risk assets could face a much tougher environment.
So don’t make the mistake of trading one CPI number.
The CPI is only the trigger.
The Fed’s reaction is what could move the market.
Are you bullish or bearish on Gold and Bitcoin after this CPI?
