Warsh says inflation is the Fed’s top focus.

That sounds simple, but I think the important part is what it means for everything around it.

Markets can get excited about rate cuts, liquidity, and easier financial conditions, but inflation remains the variable that can change the entire conversation.

I keep coming back to this: the Fed can’t really move based on what markets want. If inflation stays stubborn, patience becomes part of the policy.

And that creates an interesting tension.

Investors want momentum. The economy wants stability. The Fed wants convincing evidence that inflation is actually moving in the right direction.

So I’m less interested in one statement and more interested in what the data says next.

Because in markets, expectations can move prices quickly.

But inflation decides how long those expectations can survive.
