$ETH Ethereum is a global, open-source blockchain that does more than just send money.

While Bitcoin is mainly digital gold, Ethereum is like a world computer. Anyone can build and run apps on it without a central company controlling everything. These apps are called decentralized applications (dApps), and they work through “smart contracts” — self-executing code that runs exactly as written.

The native coin is Ether (ETH). People use it to pay for transactions and to power the network. Ethereum also powers much of today’s crypto world: decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and many other projects.

It was proposed by Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and launched in 2015. Over the years it has upgraded from energy-heavy mining to a more efficient system, making it greener and faster.

In short: Ethereum is the platform that turned blockchain from “digital money” into

“programmable money and apps for everyone.”
