I used to think settlement was just the boring final step of a financial transaction.
But the more I look into blockchain-based finance, the more I realize how important that step actually is.
Putting an asset on-chain is one thing. Making sure the transaction is finalized properly is another.
That's one reason Dusk caught my attention.
DuskDS handles the network's consensus, finality, and data availability, and Dusk describes its settlement as deterministic. The network currently targets finality in roughly 10 seconds.
What I find interesting is that Dusk isn't looking at settlement on its own.
Its market infrastructure connects things like investor eligibility, controlled transfers, trading, payment coordination, and settlement.
When I put those pieces together, I see a different idea behind Dusk.
It's not simply about putting financial assets on a blockchain.
It's about making the whole transaction process work on-chain.
That's a much bigger challenge—and probably a much more important one.
I'm curious to see how far Dusk can take it.
