I've been sitting with something about Dusk's setup that I didn't take seriously the first time I read it. There are two account models — Moonlight, which is transparent, and Phoenix, which uses zero-knowledge proofs to keep values and balances private. My first instinct was to treat that as a technical detail. Now I think it's the whole point.
Here's what I mean. A ZK proof can tell you a transaction followed the rules it was given. It cannot tell you those rules were the right ones. So you can have a transaction that's perfectly private, perfectly valid, cryptographically sound — sitting on top of an eligibility rule or an asset restriction that someone configured badly. The math still checks out. The outcome can still be wrong.
That gap is easy to miss because it doesn't live in the code. It lives in whoever writes the policy. And that's the part I keep circling back to with Dusk specifically — the protocol can be flawless and still inherit someone else's bad judgment, because verification and judgment aren't the same skill, and nothing forces them to move together.
I don't have a clean answer for how that gets resolved once real institutional money shows up. I'm just not sure it's a problem cryptography was ever going to solve.
