Kept circling back to one word tonight while reading about consensus mechanisms: "probabilistic." Most chains never actually promise finality, just decreasing risk over time. That distinction sat with me longer than I expected.
For retail, probabilistic finality is fine. Wait a few blocks, move on. But for institutions settling millions in tokenized assets, "probably final" isn't a real answer. Re-org risk alone is a dealbreaker.
Dusk approaches this differently through Succinct Attestation deterministic sortition selects provisioners using BLS signatures, forming validation and ratification committees without mining anything. Combined with rolling finality, a block becomes genuinely un-revertible in seconds, not eventually irreversible.
That also quietly kills long-range attacks and MEV reordering on pending trades, which I hadn't connected until reading this closely.
The trade-off is uptime. Offline provisioners slow voting, and emergency fallback kicks in. Speed isn't really the hard part here.
The real test is whether these strict committees stay decentralized once global volume actually scales.
