Gold & Silver Intraday Market Analysis — 19 August 2026

Market snapshot: The Asian session has started with both metals attempting to recover from yesterday's sharp selloff.

✧ Gold is around $4,343/oz, while silver is around $63.05/oz.

✧ Gold opened today near $4,335 and has traded roughly $4,327.5–$4,346.7 so far; silver opened near $63.34 and has traded roughly $62.75–$63.44.

✧ Yesterday was important: gold fell about 1.6–1.9% and silver almost 3–4% as global bond yields surged.

✧The U.S. 30-year Treasury yield briefly reached its highest level since 2007, creating a significant headwind for non-yielding metals.

🥇 XAU/USD — Gold

Current area: ~$4,340–$4,343
Today's open: ~$4,335
Today's high: ~$4,346.7
Today's low: ~$4,327.5

Intraday pivot calculation

  • Pivot: $4,338.8

  • R1: $4,345.4

  • R2: $4,352.3

  • S1: $4,331.5

  • S2: $4,325.4

So the immediate battleground is $4,338–$4,346.

Bullish scenario:
✧ A 15-minute candle closing above $4,346–$4,347, followed by a successful retest, would suggest that the Asian-session recovery is becoming a genuine reversal attempt.

✧ Targets become approximately $4,352 → $4,360 → $4,375/4,390.

Bearish scenario:
✧ Failure around $4,345–$4,350 followed by a 15-minute close below $4,331 would put sellers back in control.

✧ The next areas are $4,325 → $4,315 → $4,300.

✧ The important point for day traders is not to chase the first move. Yesterday's large decline means both a continuation selloff and a short-covering bounce are possible.

🥈 XAG/USD — Silver

Current area: ~$63.05
Today's open: ~$63.34
Today's high: ~$63.44
Today's low: ~$62.75

Intraday pivot calculation

  • Pivot: $63.08

  • R1: $63.41

  • R2: $63.77

  • S1: $62.72

  • S2: $62.40

✧ Silver is currently sitting almost exactly around its calculated pivot, making $63.08 the immediate directional line.

Bullish: 15m close above $63.40–$63.45 → $63.77 → $64.00 → $64.30.

Bearish: 15m close below $62.72 → $62.40 → $62.20 → potentially $61.80.

✧ Silver remains considerably more volatile than gold, so false breakouts around the Asian range are particularly important to watch.

🌎 Fundamental drivers today

1. Fed minutes are the major catalyst

✧ Markets are waiting for the Federal Reserve's latest meeting minutes.

✧ Recent soft employment and inflation data have reduced expectations of an immediate rate hike, which is supportive for gold.

✧ However, the bond market is sending the opposite signal: long-duration yields remain extremely elevated.

This creates a two-sided gold market:

Dovish Fed interpretation → USD/yields lower → Gold/Silver higher

Hawkish Fed interpretation → USD/yields higher → Gold/Silver lower

Expect volatility to increase substantially around the minutes.

2. Treasury yields remain the biggest bearish threat

✧ The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield reaching approximately 5.34% yesterday is a major reason gold struggled despite geopolitical risk.

✧ Higher yields increase the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset.

3. Dollar

✧ The dollar is currently relatively range-bound rather than aggressively trending. Reuters reported DXY around 99.63 on August 18.

✧ Therefore, today's cleanest gold signal would be:

Gold breakout + DXY weakness + Treasury-yield decline = stronger bullish confirmation.

Conversely:

Gold rejection + DXY strength + yields rising = high-quality bearish confirmation.

4. Geopolitical risk

✧ The continuing U.S.-Iran/Strait of Hormuz situation remains a source of safe-haven demand, but the unusual feature of this market is that geopolitical stress is also lifting oil and inflation expectations, which can push yields higher and actually hurt gold.

🎯 Best day-trading setups

🟢 GOLD LONG — breakout setup

Trigger: 15m close above $4,347

Entry: $4,347–4,350 after retest
SL: $4,338
TP1: $4,352
TP2: $4,360
TP3: $4,375+

✧ Don't enter merely because price wicks above $4,347. Wait for the 15-minute close + retest.

🔴 GOLD SHORT — rejection setup

✧ If price reaches $4,345–4,352 and produces a strong 15m rejection:

Entry: approximately $4,342–4,348 after confirmation
SL: $4,357
TP1: $4,332
TP2: $4,325
TP3: $4,315

A clean break of $4,325 would significantly strengthen the bearish case.

🟢 SILVER LONG

✧ 15m close above $63.45

Targets:

$63.77 → $64.00 → $64.30

✧ A retest of $63.40–63.45 that holds is preferable to chasing a vertical candle.

🔴 SILVER SHORT

✧ 15m close below $62.72

Targets:

$62.40 → $62.20 → $61.80

✧ Silver shorts become particularly attractive if gold simultaneously loses $4,331.

🔥 My intraday bias

Gold is currently the cleaner instrument for controlled day trading. Silver offers greater percentage movement, but its volatility makes false breakouts more dangerous.

The most important levels today are:

GOLD: $4,347 / $4,331
SILVER: $63.45 / $62.72

✧ Above those upper levels, look for buy-the-retest setups. Below the lower levels, look for sell-the-retest setups. Between them, waiting is preferable.

⚠️ Risk management

✧ Because today's market is positioned around Fed communication and exceptionally high Treasury yields, avoid oversized leverage.

✧ A 15-minute wick can easily trigger a tight stop before the actual direction emerges.

✧ Risking roughly 0.5–1% of trading capital per setup is considerably more robust than increasing size to compensate for a missed move.

📌 Bottom line: Gold has recovered modestly from yesterday's selloff, but it has not yet demonstrated a confirmed bullish reversal.

✧ The $4,345–$4,350 zone is the first real test.

✧ Silver needs to reclaim $63.40–$63.45. Until those levels break and hold on 15m, today's best approach is range trading rather than blindly assuming a rally.
