I’ve been looking at TermMax mainly from the borrower’s side, and the fixed-rate model makes more sense to me when market conditions are uncertain.
With normal DeFi borrowing, the rate can move while you’re still holding the position. That makes planning harder, especially when you’re using leverage or borrowing against assets you don’t want to sell. TermMax lets me choose a market, lock the borrowing rate, and know the repayment cost through the fixed maturity.
What I find interesting is the trade-off. I’m paying for certainty, so a floating-rate loan could still be cheaper if rates fall. But if rates suddenly jump, the fixed cost starts looking much more valuable.
The bigger question for me is liquidity. Fixed-rate markets need enough lenders and borrowers at the right maturities, otherwise the flexibility sounds better on paper than it feels in practice. TermMax is also experimenting with limit orders and different collateral markets, which could help rate discovery over time.
Would you personally pay a premium to lock your borrowing cost before a volatile market move?
