According to Axios, issue advocacy group Choose Freedom Inc. has spent $9 million on ads across nearly 20 congressional districts praising Republican lawmakers on stock trading, including some swing-district members with reputations for frequent trades. The House voted 232-198 in July to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act, which would ban members of Congress and their families from buying individual stocks, but the bill includes carveouts for pre-owned holdings and pooled vehicles such as mutual funds and ETFs, and it does not apply to the president or cabinet. House Democrats said the ad campaign is targeting lawmakers such as Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.), while the group is also running spots against Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) for voting against the bill.
