I’ve watched enough cycles to get tired of the same promises. Privacy bolted on later, rollups pretending to fix what’s transparent at the root, another layer stacked until the whole thing feels patched together and fragile. I used to buy the idea that L2 could make up for what’s missing underneath. Then I kept seeing the seams.
Something about the Dusk approach feels different, not louder, just quieter. They talk about writing privacy into the protocol instead of assembling it after the fact. Consensus, transactions, execution all designed around not being fully visible by default. It reads less like a cover thrown over a bare chassis and more like the frame itself was built that way.
Still, I’ve seen native solutions before. High technical bar, slow ecosystem start, and the risk that once everything is welded tight, changing direction later becomes its own kind of lock-in. User experience matters more than most teams admit. If ordinary people find it harder than walking into a bank, the technology stays in the garage.
I’m not sure yet how much room they leave for upgrades or how far the ecosystem has actually moved. The idea of privacy as foundation instead of wallpaper makes sense on paper. Whether it stays flexible enough, or ends up welding people into place, is the part I keep watching. DYOR.
