I had a habit of judging BTCFi by one simple question:
"How many extra layers are sitting between me and my Bitcoin?"
The answer was almost never "none."
A bridge, a wrapped token, a custodian... there was always another component asking me to believe everything would work as expected.
Reading more about @BabylonLabs_io made me realize Trustless Bitcoin Vaults aren't trying to hide those assumptions—they're trying to remove as many of them as possible.
What I find interesting is that the design doesn't start with creating another version of BTC. It starts with preserving the original one.
That changes how I think about Bitcoin's role outside its own chain.
Instead of asking users to replace Bitcoin with a representation of Bitcoin, the goal is to let cryptographic verification speak for the asset itself. It feels like a quieter approach, but also a more disciplined one.
Maybe that's why TBV caught my attention.
Sometimes innovation isn't about giving Bitcoin another destination.
It's about making sure Bitcoin never has to stop being Bitcoin in the first place.
