The U.S. military certainly has the capability to blockade ships entering and leaving the Gulf, but the real question is: what would be the objective of such a move?

Retired U.S. Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery says, “In my view, this (blockade) is feasible. And it is certainly less risky than the alternative of forcibly pushing the Iranians back from the Strait of Hormuz or escorting commercial ships through the area in secured convoys.”
