Coin World News: Anthropic has released the Claude Sonnet 5 model, stating that it is the most capable Sonnet model to date. It can create plans and use tools such as web browsers and terminals, reaching an autonomous execution level that, only a few months ago, could be achieved solely by larger and more expensive models. Sonnet 5 performance is close to Opus 4.8, and its price is lower. In key agent dimensions such as reasoning, tool use, programming, and knowledge work, it has been significantly improved compared with the previous Sonnet 4.6. Safety evaluations show that Sonnet 5 has a lower rate of undesirable behavior than Sonnet 4.6, making it safer in agent scenarios, while its capability for cybersecurity tasks is far below that of current Opus models. As of today, Sonnet 5 is available across all plans: the Free and Pro editions use it by default, and Max, Team, and enterprise users can also choose it. The model is also available on Claude Code and the Claude platform. During the launch period, pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. The promotional period runs until August 31, 2026, after which it will be adjusted to $3/$15.
