OP is sitting on $0.10 — and in about six hours, US payrolls decide whether that line holds or breaks.

Optimism ($OP) is trading around $0.104, down ~6% today, dragged down with the whole market as $BTC lost $80K and slid toward ~$75.9K. But OP isn't falling on its own news. It's falling on macro. And macro gets its verdict at 18:30 PKT.

Here's the tension nobody on crypto Twitter can resolve: everyone builds on Optimism, and almost nobody wants to hold OP.

The Superchain now runs 54 live chains and secures ~$21.8B in value. Just yesterday, Whitechain — the exchange chain behind WhiteBIT, serving 40M+ customers — announced it's moving onto the OP Stack. Unichain is moving its production infrastructure to OP Enterprise. The tech is winning.

The token is not. OP is down ~98% from its $4.84 all-time high in March 2024. It's only ~29% above its all-time low of $0.0807 from August. OP Mainnet's DeFi TVL sits near $410M — down ~93% from its $5.5B peak.

So why is the chain growing while the token bleeds? Tokenomics. That's the honest answer.

Optimism does buy back OP — half of Superchain sequencer revenue goes to monthly open-market buys, a pilot running since February 2026. The treasury held 14.39M OP at the end of October. Sounds good — until you stack it against supply: roughly 343M OP is scheduled to enter circulation between May 2026 and April 2027. That's about one token bought back for every ten to thirty-eight unlocked. And the pilot expires in January 2027 unless governance renews it.

There's one more overhang nobody's pricing in yet: 44.2M OP was stolen from Binance's Optimism wallets in the 29 October hack. Binance replenished users and froze most of the loot — but no tracker has reported that OP moving. If it ever does, it lands on a ~$239M market cap.

Now the levels that matter. $0.10 is the line — psychological support and the lower Bollinger band. Lose it and $0.0955, then the August low zone, comes into view. Hold it, and the first reclaim is $0.109, then $0.12, where the 20-day average and a wall of supply have rejected OP twice since October. History says rallies here can be violent — OP jumped ~20% in a day on the Unichain news in October — and history also says they fade just as fast when $BTC is falling.

And $BTC is the real driver today. $ETH is sitting near $2,220, down ~8% — OP is a high-beta bet on ETH risk appetite, and risk appetite gets its verdict from the jobs number. A soft payrolls print, and L2s are usually the first to bounce. A hot print, and they're the first to bleed.

That's the setup. The chain everyone builds on, the token nobody wants to hold, sitting on $0.10 with six hours until the data drops.

Check $OP's chart before 18:30 — this is the kind of line that decides the next 20% move either way.
