WalletConnect October Town Hall – Key Points
The session featured Pedro, Nacho, new CRO Lewis, and partners from Blokko and PopDEX. Recent events included Stablecon in the US, WalletConnect Pulse in Singapore, and the first Seoul pop-up where people bought merch with WalletConnect Pay. Next is Meridian in Lisbon with Stellar. IRL events remain valuable for real user feedback on Pay.
The P4 proposal passed with over 60% approval and the highest stake-weight participation so far (>3 million). Rewards under the new calculator start 5 November. Changes include a more elastic APY (fewer stakers = higher rewards), separation of voting power from reward weight, and better rates for short-term stakers (~5%) while long-term stakers keep the highest voting power and saw APY rise from ~20% to ~24%. A Whales Roundtable is planned for stakers with ≥100,000 stake weight. $WCT
Lewis noted that stablecoins are moving toward mass adoption, but merchants still face UX and wallet fragmentation issues. WalletConnect is well positioned with an existing base and growing pipeline. Merchant adoption takes time because it usually goes through PSPs and institutions first, then merchant education. Regulatory comfort has only recently improved. Pay has been live under 12 months, with large long-term potential once trust is built.
Blokko launched live remittances from WalletConnect to Mexican bank accounts or debit cards in real time (demoed under 30 seconds). PopDEX, a perp DEX, returned 100% of fees to traders, processed $5–7B in closed beta, and sees ~90% of users via WalletConnect. @WalletConnect
