The cryptocurrency market is preparing for a short-term wave of volatility as U.S. midterm elections approach on Tuesday. However, current market signals suggest that traders are expecting temporary uncertainty rather than a prolonged period of market turbulence.
š Bitcoin Options Signal Short-Term Risk
Bitcoin options expiring on November 4 are pricing in approximately 43.5% implied volatility, significantly higher than the 36% expected for later expiries. This suggests traders are preparing for possible price swings around Election Day.
Meanwhile, futures open interest remains relatively stable, with approximately $58 billion in Bitcoin and $23.58 billion in Ethereum. This indicates that many traders may be protecting existing positions rather than opening aggressive new bets.
š Crypto Market Shows Resilience
Despite recent concerns following the Binance security incident, the broader crypto market has managed to recover and stabilize.
Bitcoin is trading near $78,000, while Ethereum is holding around $2,290. Galaxy's Alex Thorn considers Bitcoin's ability to remain above its 50-week moving average for seven consecutive weeks a potentially bullish signal.
ā ļø ETF Outflows Remain a Concern
However, not all indicators are positive. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $643 million in outflows on Friday, marking their largest single-day outflow since June.
This suggests institutional investors may still be cautious despite the market's recent recovery.
