$GMX A Buyback Catalyst Is Approaching — But Can Bulls Reclaim $8.40? 👀

GMX is approaching an important tokenomics change, but the chart still needs confirmation before the recovery becomes convincing.

GMX closed near $7.77 on October 22 after a sharp 7.5% drop, then rebounded toward $7.90 on October 23. Buyers are attempting to stabilize price, but the $8.40 area remains an important level to watch.

Here’s what makes this setup interesting: 👇

Starting October 28, GMX plans to use Solana-side protocol revenue remaining after GT buybacks to purchase GMX for the staking rewards pool, subject to implementation readiness.

This could create an additional source of buying demand linked to protocol activity. However, these purchases are intended for staking rewards, not a permanent token burn.

There’s also a risk traders shouldn’t ignore: a proposed 180-day unstaking timelock for GMX and esGMX on Arbitrum and Avalanche. This could reduce stakers’ flexibility when accessing their tokens.

📊 My GMXUSDT Trading Plan

🟢 Bullish scenario: Reclaim $8.40 and hold it on a successful retest. A confirmed breakout could open the way toward $8.80, followed by $9.10.

🔴 Bearish scenario: Lose $7.50 and fail to recover it. That would weaken the recovery structure and expose GMX to another test of recent lows.

⚠️ My read: The October 28 catalyst makes GMX worth watching, but an announcement alone isn’t a buy signal. I want to see stronger volume, sustained price recovery, and evidence that the new mechanism is actually implemented.

The opportunity is in the setup. The confirmation is in the chart.

What’s your view on $GMX — bullish above $8.40, or cautious below resistance?
