Most "Bitcoin exposure" still isn't Bitcoin.
That's the quiet way people lose the trade they thought they placed. You buy the headline, the wrapper slips versus spot, and the exit you planned no longer matches the chart you were watching.
Direct exposure is the unglamorous fix. It means the fund can actually hold $BTC, not a futures position that has to be rolled, financed, and explained away when the basis moves. I saw versions of this in earlier cycles: the coin ripped, the product people owned did something close but not close enough, and the difference was fees plus structure, not bad luck. If you cannot point to the coins, you do not have the same risk you think you have. You have the product's risk plus the coin's.
Hope is fine. Just know what you're hoping on. A fund that can invest directly in $BTC is closer to the asset than a lookalike that only tracks it on a good day. The same question is worth asking of $ETH and anything else you size like a core hold. Volatility stays. The mystery middleman doesn't have to.
What's your line between owning the coin and owning a product that is supposed to feel like it?
