Australia’s securities regulator ASIC opened a consultation on proposed capital, custody and trading rules for crypto platforms, following the April passage of the Digital Assets Framework Act. The proposal outlines three capital models, including a baseline of 14 million Australian dollars ($9.7 million) in net tangible assets or 10 % of average revenue for firms without approved third‑party custody. It also calls for quarterly reporting of customer‑asset wallets, limits on platforms trading for their own account, and allows offshore custody while seeking feedback on safeguards if an overseas parent fails. Comments are due by 27 November, with final standards expected in March 2027 and the law taking effect on 8 April 2027, giving operators until 7 October 2027 to lodge licence applications.
