Data show that over the past year, total perpetual futures open interest on major trading platforms fell from $81 billion to about $67 billion, while open interest in perpetual contracts tied to real-world assets rose from nearly zero to $9 billion. According to Odaily, RWA perpetual futures accounted for 14% of total open interest, while Bitcoin perpetual open interest fell by about $8 billion, Ethereum by about $5 billion, and other tokens by a combined $10 billion. Growth in contracts linked to traditional assets only partially offset those declines.
