Crypto Just Entered Bunker Mode 🚨

Ethereum researcher Justin Drake says crypto should prepare for the possibility that AI weakens elliptic-curve security sooner than expected. The market knows $STRK as a STARK ecosystem. $VFY sits inside a less obvious part of the same security debate.

Most people will read this as a wallet story.

But it is a warning about every cryptographic assumption hidden beneath crypto infrastructure. A zero-knowledge proof does not exist in a security vacuum. Its durability depends on the mathematics used to build and verify it.

Groth16 became dominant because its proofs are small and cheap to verify. It also depends on elliptic curves and a trusted setup.
STARK-family systems use hash-based assumptions and transparent setups, but verifying them directly on

EVM chains can be expensive or unsupported.

The common workaround is to wrap the original proof into Groth16 before taking it onchain. That improves compatibility while reintroducing cryptographic dependencies the original proof system may have been designed to avoid.

zkVerify supports native verification for systems including SP1, RISC Zero and Plonky2.

Supported proofs can be checked without first converting them into Groth16 purely for EVM compatibility.

The distinction needs to be precise.

zkVerify itself is not quantum-safe. Its network still uses conventional consensus and signature schemes.

Its role is preserving the existing security properties of a proof system at the verification stage. VFY powers access to that specialised verification workload.

If cryptographic migration accelerates, infrastructure capable of verifying newer proof systems in their native form becomes increasingly valuable.
