Executives at OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies are secretly preparing for public backlash after a potential major disaster. Axios reports that executives anticipate a large-scale event, most likely a cyberattack disrupting financial services, internet connectivity, power or water. The planning focuses mainly on educating members of Congress to shape legislation and policies after a first catastrophic event. An OpenAI spokesperson said preparedness exercises cover potential scenarios that OpenAI does not treat as inevitable. Anthropic declined to comment.
