Artificial intelligence and nuclear war could threaten humanity with extinction by 2100, according to a major new report published in The Lancet.

A panel of 35 global experts identified 17 catastrophic threats to human survival and health, with the malicious use of AI and nuclear conflict singled out as the two dangers with extinction potential.

The other 15 threats include climate change, pandemics, pollution, economic inequality and conventional warfare.

Researchers assessed risks across 204 countries and territories, warning that these threats could interact and make one another considerably more dangerous.

The report doesn't go as far as predicting human extinction by 2100, but warns that decisions made by governments today could determine whether these worst-case scenarios become reality.

As things stand, we're probably cooked by 2100, of course.
