October has a reputation among crypto traders. They call it "Uptober," and its historical median return is roughly +14.7%, following September, usually Bitcoin's weakest month. This year the setup is more complicated. $BTC

Where the price stands

Bitcoin is trading well below its all-time high. That peak, about $126,000, came on October 6, 2025, and the asset sits roughly one-third under it. In late September it touched about $87,000 before pulling back, then traded near $84,000. Analysts are watching two levels. A move back above $87,500, where Bitcoin started 2026, would suggest buyers are absorbing supply, while a slip under about $81,200 would erase September's gains. The ETF story

The strongest signal is institutional money. US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $2.39 billion between September 21 and 25, their best week since October 2025, with BlackRock's IBIT taking about $1.16 billion. The pace has cooled since: $241 million came in during the week ending October 2, a third straight positive week. Total ETF assets are about $108.9 billion, or 6.42% of Bitcoin's market cap. A divergence worth noting

Inflows haven't translated into a clean rally. Bitcoin held near $84,000 despite seven straight inflow sessions, while long-term holders sold into strength around $84,000–$85,000. Daily flows also faded fast during that record week, dropping from $999 million on Monday to $134 million by Friday. In other words, new buyers are absorbing coins that earlier holders want to sell.

What forecasters say

Predictions for the month are wide. One AI-generated forecast gave a base case of $90,000–$98,000 by October 31, with a 25% chance of $105,000–$120,000. Other models are more cautious, clustering around $80,000–$90,000. Treat all of these as scenarios, not predictions. They have no special insight into what the market will do.

The takeaway

October 2026 looks like a test of whether steady institutional buying can outweigh profit-taking by long-term holders. Seasonality favors the bulls, but the price action so far hasn't confirmed it.
