Bank-Grade Custody for Institutions

Standard Chartered (@StanChart) has announced plans to offer custody services for selected cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) in Singapore. The service is aimed at institutional clients and accredited investor corporate clients, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.

In Singapore, the planned custody service will complement the bank's broader Financing and Securities Services capabilities, bringing together traditional asset servicing, tokenization, and digital asset custody. This will allow Standard Chartered to support clients across a wider range of asset lifecycles, from safeguarding traditional assets to providing custody for tokenized assets within an institutional-grade framework.

Expanding a Growing Digital Asset Footprint

The move marks another step in Standard Chartered's continued expansion of digital asset custody capabilities across key international financial centres, building on its existing presence in the UAE, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong.

Patrick Lee, CEO of Singapore and ASEAN and South Asia at Standard Chartered, said Singapore is a key hub for financial innovation with growing demand for trusted digital asset solutions. He added that robust infrastructure would be critical to supporting the secure movement, safekeeping, and servicing of tokenized assets at an institutional scale.

Under a broader restructuring, Zodia's customer-facing custody business for Standard Chartered's institutional clients is moving inside the bank's Corporate and Investment Banking division. The subsidiary will continue operating as a standalone software-as-a-service platform, providing white-label crypto custody services to third-party banks and fintechs.

The move reflects Standard Chartered's continued investment in digital asset capabilities, responding to growing demand from institutional and corporate clients for secure, regulated, and bank-grade digital asset custody.
