BlockBeats news, October 5: Zcash has activated the NU7 network upgrade on its testnet, conducting live testing ahead of a planned mainnet upgrade in November. The Zcash testnet block explorer shows that the scheduled activation height of 4,465,026 completed block production at 18:21:45 UTC on October 4, and Zcash subsequently confirmed that NU7 has officially gone live on the testnet.NU7 will shorten Zcash's target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while disabling version 4 transactions and introducing a "network sustainability mechanism" that redirects part of transaction fees toward future block rewards. After version 4 transactions are disabled, ZEC still held in the old Sprout privacy pool will become unusable unless users move the relevant funds before NU7 is fully activated.Based on testnet performance, Zcash developers will decide on October 20 whether to proceed with the mainnet upgrade and determine the activation height, with the target date for mainnet activation set for November 5.
