zkAPI permits expiry claims that send an expired active note's full recorded deposit to the treasury rather than refunding the user. The Ethereum Foundation announced on Oct. 1 that the private AI-payment system, based on a design coauthored by Davide Crapis and Vitalik Buterin, is running on mainnet. Users can initiate escape withdrawals without server clearance, subject to a 24-hour challenge period and possession of a usable spending state. The vault owner can pause new withdrawals, but already-pending escape finalization does not have that pause restriction. The mainnet configuration specifies a 30-day note lifetime, with expiry rounded upward to a one-day boundary. The announcement describes USDC credits, but the current mainnet manifest identifies the linked vault as holding native ETH. The manifest describes the integration as experimental and not production-audited.
