BlockBeats news, October 4 — According to The Wall Street Journal, the White House has established a "Super Intelligence Force," chaired by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. Within 120 days, the task force will assess the risks and opportunities of AI, clarify federal government responsibilities, and study how to ensure the United States maintains leadership in the field of "superintelligence" while safeguarding the interests of the American public. The task force still regards the AI industry as the primary force for managing technological risks, but it will work with companies to identify risks and opportunities and review current laws and possible measures by Congress. Its charter requires developing plans to address social threats related to superintelligence while avoiding overregulation or regulatory capture that could stifle innovation and competition; the task force will also evaluate early warning and government notification mechanisms for incidents such as data breaches, hacker attacks, and model jailbreaks. The task force has three vice chairs, respectively responsible for coordinating AI companies, critical infrastructure, and other industry stakeholders, as well as issues including consumers, children, privacy, and freedom of speech. Members include U.S. Vice President Vance, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Bessent, and White House Chief of Staff Wiles, among others. David Sacks and former U.S. Secretary of State Rice will provide advice as external participants. Related work may be extended beyond 120 days if necessary, or transferred to other government agencies.
