VeChain’s Interstellar Upgrade Could Strengthen Its EVM Ecosystem

VeChain ($VET ) is approaching an important milestone with the Interstellar upgrade scheduled for September 16.

Also known as VIP-255, the upgrade introduces 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals designed to improve VeChainThor’s compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), along with changes to smart-contract functionality and network security.

The EVM compatibility aspect is particularly interesting because it can make it easier for developers familiar with Ethereum-based tools and applications to build on VeChainThor.

VeChain has traditionally focused on connecting blockchain technology with real-world applications, including supply-chain data, product verification, sustainability, and digital product passports. CoinMarketCap also categorizes VeChain under Real World Assets Protocols.

However, the VET token itself should not be viewed as a direct claim on a real-world asset. VET is the network’s primary token, while VTHO is used to pay transaction and smart-contract execution fees.

This separation is an interesting part of VeChain’s architecture. It allows network participation and transaction costs to serve different functions within the ecosystem.

The bigger question is what happens after the Interstellar upgrade.

A technical upgrade can improve infrastructure, but it does not automatically create adoption. Developer activity, new applications, network usage, and ecosystem growth will be more meaningful indicators of whether the changes are translating into practical value.

For VeChain, the upgrade could therefore be viewed as more than a technical event. It is an opportunity to make its infrastructure more accessible to developers while continuing its focus on real-world use cases.

The next phase will depend on execution and whether improved infrastructure can attract meaningful activity to VeChainThor.
