Bitcoin has officially processed its first known quantum-resistant transaction on the mainnet, utilizing a novel method called Quantum Safe Bitcoin built by StarkWare’s Avihu Levy. This breakthrough secures funds during the critical ten-minute mempool confirmation window without requiring any consensus-level changes or soft forks.

The transaction was mined through MARA’s private Slipstream mempool, providing an immediate stopgap solution for what MARA Foundation head Isabel Foxen Duke describes as emergency "break-glass cases." While researchers warn that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could eventually break standard wallet keys, this development marks a crucial first step toward long-term quantum resistance.
