I lost $5,400 because I thought a 5% stop loss was a strategy. I used to slap a hard 5% exit on every $BTC trade, thinking I was playing it safe, only to get wicked out of a perfectly good long right before the price ripped back up. That was my fundamental error: treating a stop loss as a tax rather than a structural defense. If you want to survive, you stop looking at your PnL and start looking at the chart. For a $BTC long, you place your stop just below the last major swing low or a key support level that, if broken, invalidates your entire thesis. If that structural support is 8% away, you either shrink your position size to fit your risk management or you don’t take the trade at all.
