Michael Terpin — the investor CNBC dubbed the "Godfather of Crypto" — returned to Aura8 for Episode 71 with host Vaibhavv Ali (Vali). The timing was unusually good: Bitcoin had just closed one of its quietest months in two years, the CLARITY Act had died on the Senate calendar hours earlier, and Terpin was two-for-two on the calls he made on the show a fortnight ago.
Two predictions, both landed
Two weeks earlier on Aura8, Terpin made two specific calls: July would finish green, and August could take those gains back. July closed up roughly 9%. As of early August 2026, Bitcoin has been trading in the $63,500–$65,000 zone with some of the lowest realised volatility in two years — the quiet that typically precedes a resolution in one direction.
The short-term setup: $62,000 is the level that matters
Terpin's read of the chart is a compression between two levels, with the downside break carrying far more energy than the upside one.
"We've got a very tightening band of resistance… We've had a hard time breaking above sixty-five. Yet we've seen about sixty-two support. We go below sixty-two, I think I've said that's a trap door… it's going to basically lead to us going below sixty. And when we breach sixty, there's going to be a lot of people who are selling… it opens the door to then go to fifty-eight."
The historical scaffolding is the 2018 and 2022 analogue: a weak June, a July recovery, then an August give-back. His framework treats the crypto calendar as a repeating structure rather than a series of unrelated events, which is what makes his levels falsifiable — a quality in short supply in this industry.
Worth stating for balance: not every desk reads the same chart the same way. Some technicians point to a head-and-shoulders bottom forming beneath the flat price action that would argue for an upside resolution instead. Two competent analysts can look at the same range and disagree about which side it breaks. That is precisely why Terpin gives a level rather than a target.
The CLARITY Act delay: September at best, 2029 at worst
The Senate left for its August recess without voting on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Majority Leader John Thune has said the bill is queued up first when the chamber returns on 14 September — but a scheduled vote and a passed bill are different objects.
Terpin's downside scenario is the one most of the industry is not pricing. If the September window closes without passage and Republicans lose the House at the midterms, meaningful market-structure legislation could slip as far as 2029. The consequence that matters: slower institutional allocation, and compliance teams planning against interpretive guidance rather than statute for years longer than expected.
The real lesson on altcoins
Terpin's thesis is simple and unsentimental: Bitcoin makes a new all-time high every cycle. Most altcoins do not. Each cycle mints its own narrative — mining, then Proof-of-Stake, then ICOs, then DeFi, and now RWA tokenisation, AI agents and next-generation DEXs — and the leaders of a finished cycle rarely reclaim their previous highs when measured against Bitcoin rather than against the dollar.
The edge he describes is procedural rather than clairvoyant: sell the current narrative near its top, rotate into the next narrative near its bottom, and refuse to confuse loyalty with a thesis. It is a harder discipline than holding, which is exactly why it works.
Key takeaways from Aura8 Ep71
July played out as predicted. August still carries real downside risk.
2. $62,000 is the critical support level; a break opens $60,000 and then $NVDAB 3. The CLARITY Act is delayed and may not pass in 2026 — with a tail risk of 2029.
4. Old altcoins rarely make new all-time highs against Bitcoin. New narratives win.
5. A consistent rotation process beats holding previous cycle winners out of loyalty.
Terpin's framework is set out in full in his book Bitcoin Supercycle: How the Crypto Calendar Can Make You Rich.
Aura8 airs weekly from Dubai, hosted by Vaibhavv Ali (Vali), and is available on LinkedIn Live, X, YouTube and major podcast platforms. Terpin is now two-for-two on recent Aura8 calls. The rest of August will test whether the historical pattern holds a third time.
