$ETH is moving forward with plans to strengthen its network against future quantum-computing threats, with developers now targeting 2028 for a quantum-resistant transition, one year earlier than the previous schedule.
The upgrade is part of Ethereum’s long-term security planning, as powerful quantum computers could eventually threaten some of the cryptographic systems used to protect blockchain transactions and wallets.
Ethereum’s preparation covers several important areas, including wallet signatures, validator security, data availability and zero-knowledge proof systems.
Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake has discussed completing the transition by December 2028, although the network’s official security roadmap still places major infrastructure milestones around 2029.
No quantum computer can currently break Ethereum’s cryptography, but developers want the network ready well before such a threat becomes practical.
