You are up twenty percent on a trade.

You feel like a genius. You check your phone every five minutes to watch the green candles print.

But you do not sell.

You tell yourself it can go higher. You want to squeeze out a few more dollars.

Then the market turns. The price pulls back.

You are still up five percent. You tell yourself you will sell when it bounces back to your entry. You just want to break even on the trade and walk away a winner.

The bounce never comes.

Now you are down ten percent.

You refuse to close the position. You tell yourself it was a winning trade ten minutes ago. It has to come back.

You just turned a guaranteed profit into a heavy bag.

This is the break even trap. And it destroys more retail accounts than bad leverage.

Your brain anchors to the highest profit you saw on the screen. You feel like you are losing money when the price drops, even though you are still above your entry.

You let your ego dictate your exit. You demand the market give you the exact price you want.

The market does not know your entry price. The market does not care about your feelings.

A green trade can turn red in a single candle.

Next time you are in profit, have a plan. Take partial profits. Move your stop loss to your entry.

Do not let a winning trade turn into a lesson you have to pay for. Protect your wins just as fiercely as you protect your capital.
