Everyone thinks crypto only stays safe if you hold the keys yourself, but actually some of the biggest banks are stepping in to hold them for companies.

Plenty of treasuries stall the moment private keys come up. One sloppy backup and years of $BTC can disappear the way a house key lost in the couch locks you out for good. That fear either keeps them on the sidelines or pushes them into a rushed setup that later falls apart.

Deutsche Bank says its custody service is due in the coming weeks. It starts in Germany with $BTC and $ETH for corporate and institutional clients. The bank will manage the wallets and the private keys, so those firms do not have to build their own storage from scratch. Picture renting a bank vault instead of welding a safe in the office basement. You still own what sits inside, but someone else handles the locks and the night watch.

The mistake is assuming “institutional” automatically means simple. Custody still comes with rules, fees, and a counterparty you have to trust. For a company that cannot afford a lost seed phrase, that trade can make sense. For anyone who wants full control of every $ETH move, it may not.

Would you rather keep the keys yourself or let a bank watch the vault?
