Trump faces potential court sanctions in his $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC.

A U.S. magistrate judge has warned Donald Trump that sanctions could follow if he continues failing to participate in the legal process surrounding his defamation case against the British broadcaster.

The dispute centers on a BBC documentary that edited portions of Trump's January 6, 2021 speech. The BBC apologized for the editing but denies that it defamed him.

Trump's legal team canceled a deposition scheduled for October 16, citing “matters of national importance,” and reportedly suggested January 2027 as an alternative — after the case's December discovery deadline.

The BBC is asking the court to compel his testimony. Judge Enjolique A. Lett has ordered Trump to respond by October 22.

The key distinction: the judge has threatened sanctions, not imposed them. The dispute is now about whether Trump will provide testimony within the court's schedule while the underlying defamation claims remain unresolved.
