Bitcoin News monitoring suggests former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès may have inadvertently triggered coordinated fund transfers across multiple wallets by publicly disclosing physical tampering with Ledger devices. Karpelès warned on October 8 that counterfeit or tampered Ledger devices containing hidden SIM cards capable of transmitting stolen seed phrases were being sold. The devices could allegedly still pass Ledger's official genuine product verification because the original secure element remained intact. The connection between the warning and subsequent wallet fund transfers remains unconfirmed. A compromised hardware supply chain is the suspected attack path, rather than a vulnerability in cryptographic algorithms.
