A single percentage change number is close to meaningless without knowing which window it's measured over. SHELL's return figures across six windows: today +2.88%, 7 days -12.79%, 30 days +9.86%, 90 days +4.66%, 180 days -14.81%, 1 year -79.23%.
Notice that the 7-day figure is sharply negative while the 30-day figure, which contains that same 7-day period, is positive. That's not a contradiction, it just means the earlier three weeks of the 30-day window were strong enough to outweigh a weak final week. Reading only one of these six numbers in isolation would tell a materially different, and incomplete, story.
