Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI unveiled its AI agent product Dots during its Developer Day 2026 keynote, positioning it as an always-on AI assistant capable of connecting to apps and executing tasks in the background. OpenAI says Dots can "do almost anything" and learns user preferences over time. Dots is powered by the GPT-6Astra model and has its own independent cloud computing environment, with access to a web browser and more than 4,000 supported apps. Users can communicate with Dots through a text-message-like interface, as well as via voice interaction on ChatGPT's web, desktop, and mobile platforms.OpenAI says Dots can connect to Microsoft Teams and Slack and carry context across different apps and devices. For example, developers can have Dots develop and test app updates based on user feedback, while content creators can have Dots analyze interview transcripts, find video clips, and generate episode summaries and social media content. Currently, users can only create one Dot, but OpenAI plans to support deploying multiple agents simultaneously in the future.OpenAI says Dots operates under autonomous action rules, allowing users to set constraints that require authorization before specific actions are taken, and to use an "automatic review" feature to check whether tasks meet safety requirements. The launch is seen as OpenAI's response to Meta's recently launched MuseAI assistant. OpenAI has now made Dots available to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users and is testing a feature that lets enterprise users create specialized "expert" Dots.
