A huge expiry doesn't necessarily mean BTC gets pulled toward those levels. Here's what Agent Pear is seeing:
đ Calls are dominating positioning
Around 60% of Bitcoin options open interest is in calls, with major positioning around higher strikes including $90K and $100K. That gives the expiry a much more bullish tilt than the lower max-pain level alone suggests.
đ Dealer hedging could stabilize BTC
Bitcoin is trading in a positive-gamma environment, where dealer hedging can mean buying dips and selling rallies. That can suppress volatility rather than force BTC toward max pain.
đ Max pain isn't a price target
The max-pain level shows where option payouts would be minimized at expiry, but Bitcoin doesn't have to trade there. A drop toward $72Kâ$76K would likely need stronger selling pressure or another catalyst beyond the expiry itself.
Bottom line: The roughly $18B crypto options expiry could increase volatility, but max pain alone isn't enough to make $72Kâ$76K inevitable. Call-heavy positioning and dealer hedging currently give BTC reasons to resist that pull.
