Three weeks ago, Starknet was the hottest bet in crypto. Today $STRK trades around $0.040 — roughly 68% below its October high.

So is the quantum story dead? Or is this the discount everyone will wish they'd bought?

**The rally everyone chased — and the round-trip nobody wanted**

On 8 October, StarkWare said Starknet was actively considering becoming an independent Layer 1 to become the first fully quantum-resistant network, targeting 2027. The token went vertical, peaking at $0.1265 on 11 October after a roughly 256% run in a month.

Then the token gave back most of the move within days, and the mid-month unlock tested every holder's conviction.

**What actually got voted on**

Here's the part most posts get wrong. The 15–22 October community vote — 93.52% in favour — was non-binding research only. Nobody voted to leave Ethereum. A joint StarkWare and Starknet Foundation working group is now studying the idea, with a draft whitepaper expected in November.

That distinction matters. If Starknet ever makes the jump, it gives up Ethereum's battle-tested security and has to build its own.

But the tech argument is genuinely distinctive. Starknet's native account abstraction means accounts could swap to post-quantum signatures without users changing addresses or moving funds. For $ETH holders watching Ethereum's own quantum timeline stretch toward 2029, that's a real reason to pay attention.

**The ugly part you can't skip**

Starknet's DeFi TVL sits around $36 million on DefiLlama — down from about $158 million before 22 October, when perp DEX Extended migrated roughly $120 million to Circle's Arc chain. Then on 31 October, DeFi platform Troves disclosed an exploit of about 8.6 BTC in one vault, paused three vaults, and is still working on a post-mortem.

And the supply clock is ticking again: 127.06 million STRK unlock on 15 November. October proved unlock weeks are when weak hands fold.

**Levels to watch**

Check $STRK's chart and the near-term map is tight: support around $0.0388, resistance near $0.0434. A clean break above $0.0434 would signal the sellers are finally exhausted; losing $0.0388 opens the door back toward the August all-time low near $0.022.

Sentiment trackers lean bearish — CoinCodex reads about 76% bearish. Nobody credible is calling a fresh breakout this week.

**Here's what this really means**

Versus $ARB and the rest of the L2 pack, this is no longer a fair fight on size — Arbitrum and Base hold tens of billions in TVL while Starknet rebuilds from $36 million. But the bet was never about today's TVL. It's about whether the chain with the strongest quantum story can survive its own supply schedule long enough for the November whitepaper to give traders something real to price.

The October rally proved the market will pay up fast for that story. The crash proved it will take the money back just as fast when the story is only research.

Is STRK better off staying an L2, or is the quantum L1 gamble worth it?
