1. What Happened On 21 October?

On Wednesday, 21 October, $SOL activated a new upgrade called Alpenglow.

This is not a small update. It is a complete change in how Solana confirms transactions.

Since 2020, Solana was using a system called TowerBFT. Now that system is retired, and Alpenglow has replaced it.

The activation happened at slot 459,653,000, around 14:00 UTC.

For normal users, nothing changed. Your wallet is the same. Your fees are the same. Your apps are the same.

So what actually changed?

2. The Main Change: From 12.8 Seconds To 150 Milliseconds

This is the part most people do not understand clearly.

In crypto, there are two things:

- When you see your transaction on the screen

- When the network says, "Okay, this is final now, it cannot be reversed"

That second part is called finality.

Before Alpenglow, Solana needed around 12.8 seconds to reach finality. Now the target is around 150 milliseconds. That is about 85 times faster.

Think of it like this:

Earlier, if you sent money to an exchange, the exchange had to wait 12 to 13 seconds before it could say, "Payment confirmed, you can trade now."

Now, in normal conditions, that wait can be less than 1 second.

For a normal user sending $20, you may not feel a big difference. But for exchanges, trading apps, payment companies, and games, this is huge. They can release funds faster, show confirmation faster, and build faster apps.

3. How Did They Make It So Fast?

The old system was slow for one simple reason.

Validators were writing their votes as transactions on the blockchain itself. Then they had to wait for many blocks to collect approvals.

Alpenglow changed that completely.

Now validators send their votes directly to each other, off-chain. Then they combine those votes into a certificate. A block becomes final after just one or two voting rounds.

In simple words:

Old way = Everyone writing a letter, posting it, and waiting for the postman.

New way = Everyone talking on a group call and saying "yes" together.

That is why it is faster.

Another change: Validators now pay a flat 0.8 SOL per epoch fee instead of paying for every vote. This makes their cost more predictable.

And the network is designed to keep working even if 20% of the stake acts badly and another 20% goes offline. This is called the 20+20 model.

4. Then Why Did The Price Break $100?

This is the question everyone is asking me.

If the upgrade is so good, why did SOL fall below $100?

The honest answer is: The upgrade is about technology. The price is about money flow.

And right now, money flow is weak.

On 24 October, Solana fell below $100 during a broad market sell-off. Bitcoin also fell below $80,000 on the same day, which triggered more than $200 million in liquidations within one hour.

SOL fell by around 7% in that session and broke below the $100 level, which had acted as short-term psychological support.

US spot Solana ETFs also saw outflows. On 22 October alone, there was an $8.9 million outflow. This shows that some big investors are taking money out, not putting it in.

So Alpenglow is good for the long term, but the short-term price is still following Bitcoin and ETF flows.

This is normal in crypto. Good news does not always mean a green candle on the same day.

5. What Is The Price Doing Right Now?

Let me keep it simple, with no complicated chart talk.

Today's data:

- Current Price: Around $101.80

- Today's High: $102.77

- Today's Low: $98.62

- Previous Close: $102.10

This means SOL broke $100 today, went down to $98.62, and then bounced back above $100.

That bounce is important, but it does not mean the danger is over.

New levels I am watching now:

Support 1: $100.00 - $100.32

This was the old floor. Now it is broken. If price closes below $100 again, it will become resistance.

Support 2: $98.62 - $98.20

This is today's low. If this breaks, the next target is $96.85.

Resistance 1: $102.05 - $104.44

Price needs to close above $104.44 to show real strength. After that, $107.50 is next.

RSI is around 34 to 38, which means weak but close to oversold. Price is still below its short-term moving averages. So the short-term trend is still down.

My personal view:

- Daily close above $104.44 = Buyers are back, we can look for $108 - $110

- Daily close below $98.62 = Sellers are in control, we can see $96 - $95

- Between $98 - $104 = Just wait. No need to rush.

This is not financial advice. These are just the levels I am watching.

6. What About The Bigger Picture? Is Solana Dead?

No. Far from it.

Look at what is happening behind the price:

- JPMorgan expanded its tokenized funds to Solana.

- Securitize launched 12 tokenized US stocks on Solana.

- Solana's real-world asset value has grown to $4.3 billion in one year.

- Solana is now second in AI agent payments after Base, because fees are less than a cent and speed is now even faster after Alpenglow.

These are not meme coin stories. These are real institutions building on Solana.

Price can stay down for weeks, but building does not stop. That is usually how big cycles work. Technology comes first, price comes later.

7. What Should A Normal Trader Do Now?

I am writing this for normal people like me, not for whales.

1. Do not chase a pump. SOL is in a range between $98 and $104. Chasing in the middle is the worst place.

2. If you are a spot holder, $98.62 is your new key level. Hold above it, structure is okay. Lose it, be careful.

3. If you are a futures trader, use small leverage. This range will liquidate both longs and shorts if you use 20x to 50x.

4. Wait for a clear daily close. Either above $104 or below $98. That will tell us the next move.

5. Do not trade on news alone. Alpenglow is great, but news without volume does not move price.

8. My Final Take

Solana did what it promised. It made its network 95% faster in finality. It removed a 6-year-old system and replaced it with something built for payments, trading, and real-world apps.

But the market is not rewarding it yet because the market is scared, ETF money is going out, and Bitcoin is weak.

That does not make Alpenglow useless. It makes Solana stronger for the next run.

When the market turns, coins with real upgrades are the ones that move first. I have seen this in 2023, in 2024, and I think we will see it again.

For now, I am watching $98.62 and $104.44. Nothing else matters.

What do you think?

Do you think Alpenglow will help SOL go back to $150 in the next few months, or will it stay stuck near $100 because of Bitcoin?

Tell me in the comments. I read every comment.
