Elon Musk has called the idea a good one, and both companies have formed special committees of independent directors to examine a potential merger.

However, no final deal has been agreed, and the merger is far from guaranteed. Tesla shareholders would also need to approve the transaction.

At current valuations, SpaceX is worth roughly $2.0–$2.1 trillion, while Tesla is around $1.5 trillion, putting their combined value in the neighborhood of $3.5–$3.6 trillion. That would create one of the world’s biggest companies.

The potential combination would bring together Tesla’s electric vehicles, batteries, robotics and manufacturing with SpaceX’s rockets, Starlink, AI infrastructure and satellite technology.

There is also a major control question. Musk owns about 20% of Tesla but has roughly 85% of SpaceX’s voting power through its share structure. Analysts have estimated that a deal could give him around 57% of the voting power in the combined company, depending on the final terms.

If it happens, this would be far more than a normal corporate merger. It could bring cars, rockets, satellites, AI and robotics under one giant corporate structure.

But for now, it remains a proposal under review not a completed merger.
