If you're still waiting for a bank to "someday" hold crypto before you take custody seriously, stop now.

The real pain isn't missing one candle. It's companies either sitting out $BTC because key storage felt too messy, or burning money trying to build wallets they were never set up to run.

Deutsche Bank says its crypto custody service launches in the coming weeks, starting in Germany with Bitcoin and Ether for corporate and institutional clients. The bank will manage the wallets and private keys, so those clients don't have to stand up their own storage. One of Europe's biggest banks moving from talk to an actual launch date is a different kind of headline than another pilot announcement.

Skeptics have a fair point. Handing private keys to a bank puts a trusted middleman right back in the middle, and "coming weeks" still isn't live flow. The other side is harder to dismiss: institutions have wanted $ETH and $BTC exposure for years and kept stalling on who holds the keys. I land with the second view. Custody was the bottleneck, and this is how it starts to loosen. Stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and help issuing digital bonds are already lined up as the next step, not a vague maybe.

Does bank custody actually pull serious money in, or does it just dress the old system up in a new asset?
