Celestia just upgraded its data highway. Apparently, even blockchains are tired of buffering.
Celestia’s Fibre upgrade is now live on mainnet, introducing a new data availability protocol designed to dramatically increase blob data throughput.
The numbers are wild:
881× faster data processing than KZG-based protocols, according to Celestia.
3.07 Tb/s sustained throughput in an end-to-end benchmark involving 120 validators.
Launching at 150 MB/s, with capacity to scale as demand grows.
Around 800,000 TPS claimed capacity—roughly 15× Celestia’s previous capacity.
Fibre sends blob data directly to validators, while the blockchain records data commitments and validator signatures. Its ZODA encoding scheme is at the heart of the performance gains.
Higher data availability capacity could help support rollups, on-chain financial applications, and AI-agent commerce. But benchmark performance is only part of the story real-world adoption, network demand, and reliability will determine how much the upgrade matters.
Celestia is speeding up the network. Now the real question is… when will $TIA finally speed up its price chart?
The question: Will Fibre make Celestia a major data layer for the next wave of rollups and AI agents, or is 800K TPS just another number waiting for real demand?
