EU Cash Ban 2027: €10,000 Limit, €3,000 ID Checks and What It Means for Bitcoin
From 10 July 2027, the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) changes how money moves across all 27 EU countries.
EU Cash Limit Rules
🔸 Cash payments above €10,000 to businesses will be banned
🔸 Cash payments of €3,000 or more will need ID verification
🔸 Split payments will count as one transaction
🔸 Private person-to-person cash stays legal
EU Crypto Rules from the Same Date
🔹 Full KYC at all EU crypto exchanges
🔹 Anonymous crypto accounts will be banned
🔹 Transfers of €1,000+ to or from self-hosted wallets will need verification
🔹 Privacy coins like Monero (XMR) will be removed from EU exchanges
What Stays Free
✅ Self-custody wallets are NOT banned
✅ Wallet-to-wallet Bitcoin payments have no limit and no KYC
My Take: Cash is being capped and exchanges are becoming banks. Self-custody is now the strongest case for Bitcoin in Europe.
