Tokenized stocks just hit a real roadblock — from Wall Street's biggest names.
Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's and Western Digital have objected to their shares being traded in tokenized form on OKXICE, the planned 24/7 venue from crypto exchange OKX and NYSE owner Intercontinental Exchange. An updated public notice dated Oct 19 puts the count at 16, up from 9 a week earlier — against 63 proposed tickers.
Under the SEC's five-year Innovation Exemption, issuers hold veto power: a venue must give 30 days' notice, and a written objection keeps that company's tokens off the venue.
Co-chair Andrew Cuomo called the pushback "a very natural response" Tuesday, framing it as wait-and-see. Separately, Securitize is offering 12 tokenized stocks to US investors — its CEO says OKXICE objections don't equal opposition to tokenization.
Why it matters: the opt-out is the constraint nobody priced in. Tokenized equity only gets built on blue chips that consent — the 47 non-objectors are the real watchlist. NFA; watch the notice updates.
Which opt-out surprises you most — Microsoft, Alphabet, or Goldman Sachs?
