Switzerland just greenlit its very first Bitcoin ETF for everyday investors, which is a pretty big deal for crypto in Europe.
Up until now, most products tracking digital assets were locked behind the doors of wealthy or institutional investors, but FINMA's latest approval opens the door to the general public. They actually gave the fund a special waiver from the usual rules that force funds to diversify across multiple assets, arguing that Bitcoin has built up enough liquidity and market maturity to stand on its own.
Naturally, there are still tight guardrails around how it's stored, and the paperwork comes with heavy warnings about how volatile crypto can be. Still, it's a huge step forward for getting digital assets into standard investment portfolios over there.
