Switzerland just did what even the US took its time doing.
FINMA has approved the country's first bitcoin ETF — a Swiss-domiciled retail fund, the first time bitcoin sits inside an approved fund wrapper. Crypto ETPs have traded on the Swiss exchange for years; this is the status upgrade.
The interesting part: Swiss rules demand risk diversification, and a single-asset fund breaks that. FINMA granted an exemption, citing bitcoin's long trading history and exceptionally high volume. The fund lands in the "other funds for alternative investments" category — with custody safeguards and FinSA suitability checks at the point of sale.
FINMA didn't name the issuer — reports point to BIT Asset Management (ex-Matrixport), unconfirmed — and says more providers have filed. It also attached a health warning: bitcoin stays high-risk even in a wrapper, and capital can lose considerable value.
Tape check: $BTC $81,464 (-1.81%/24h), $ETH $2,383 (-2.45%/24h) — context only.
