Main Takeaways

  • Programmable RWAs are tokenized, on-chain real-world assets that can be lent, pooled and used as collateral.

  • On-chain RWA value is up 85.2% this year to $34.18B, but that’s still only about 0.01% of the markets it could reach. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

  • Binance Wallet is a self-custodial Web3 product, separate from Binance’s regulated exchange services, and one of many ways to explore programmable RWAs yourself.

This article covers two separate things: research published by Binance Research, and information about Binance Wallet, a self-custodial Web3 product that gives users access to third-party Web3 protocols. Binance Wallet is not part of Binance's regulated exchange services. Using Binance Wallet is a separate choice from reading the research in this article.

RWA growth is broadening across major asset classes: bond and money-market funds drove 54.7% of this year’s on-chain AUM increase; equities another 22.4%. The more consequential shift lies in what happens once these assets are on-chain: whether they can be lent, pooled, or posted as collateral – that is, whether they are programmable. This blog examines what programmable RWAs are, the scale of their rise, and how to access them.

What are Programmable RWAs?

Programmable RWAs are real-world assets that have been tokenized and brought on-chain, with logic baked directly into their smart contracts. Rather than just representing an asset, they can enforce rules, automate payments, and serve as collateral or liquidity in on-chain markets.

Explosive Growth, Room for Greater Penetration

Programmable RWAs are growing fast, and it’s still early days. One way to see how early is measuring Programmable Asset Ratio (PAR): the value of programmable on-chain assets as a share of the total market they could one day reach.

According to Binance Research, the markets tokenization could reach are worth more than $300 trillion. Just over $34 billion of that is on-chain today, a PAR of roughly 0.01%, which signals the market is growing quickly, and still has almost all of its potential ahead of it.

Equities and Bonds Lead the Way

Equities mirror this trend. Tokenized equities grew 390.4% this year to $4.43B, which is still only 0.0029% of the $151.9 trillion global listed-equity market. Meanwhile, their share of on-chain RWA value more than doubled from 4.9% to 13.0%.

Bonds and money-market funds are growing from a larger base. They hold $18.29B on-chain, with a PAR of about 0.0171%. That large pool of interest-bearing assets gives on-chain applications plenty to build on, while equities grow faster through wider distribution and easier access.

Room to Put Capital to Work

Utilization has plenty of room to grow too. Overall capital activation rate (CAR) is about 12%, so roughly $12 of every $100 in tokenized value is already being used in on-chain markets. The momentum is clear: equity CAR rose from 1.95% to 7.54% this year, and private credit has reached 49.67%.

With so much tokenized capital still available to use, activation can keep growing without any new issuance. That makes the next opportunity twofold: bringing more assets on-chain, and giving holders more ways to use them across liquidity, lending and collateral markets.

A Separate Product: Binance Wallet

The research above comes from Binance Research and describes the broader programmable RWA market, independent of any specific Binance product. One option some users choose to explore programmable RWAs is Binance Wallet.

Binance Wallet is a self-custodial Web3 product that gives users access to third-party Web3 protocols through its interface. It is operated separately from Binance's centralized exchange (CEX) and is not covered by the same regulatory status. You are solely responsible for your own custody, security, and compliance when using it.

How to Access Programmable RWAs

Binance Wallet gives you access to third-party protocols and dApps through its interface, but it is not the primary service provider for them, those services are operated independently.

1. Set up your Binance Wallet: The Binance Wallet is built into the Binance App.

Open the app, go to [Wallet] > [Web3 Wallet] and tap [Create Wallet]. If you already have a wallet, you can import it instead.

2. Fund your wallet with a stablecoin: Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC hold a steady value and work with most token swaps, so they're a convenient starting point.

Tap Receive in your wallet, then withdraw funds from your Binance Exchange account to your Binance Wallet, or fund it from another wallet address or with a credit or debit card.

When the withdrawal or transfer is done, your stablecoin will show up under Assets. Note: You may need a gas token to perform the swap. Fund your wallet with a gas token the same way.

3. Open Binance Wallet’s trade tab: Use the wallet’s trade tab to access programmable RWAs such as tokenized stocks, ETFs, or other structured products.

4. Swap your stablecoin for a programmable RWA: Go to the Trade tab. Pick your preferred stablecoin to swap, enter how much of the programmable RWA you want to buy, and tap Approve & Swap.

5. Store or use your programmable RWAs: Your tokens are now in your Binance Wallet, where you can hold them or use them on-chain.

Final Thoughts

Programmable RWAs turn tokenized real-world assets into ones you can use on-chain. With only about 0.01% of the markets they could reach tokenized so far, and about 12% of that capital already in use, there's plenty of room to grow. The shift from issuing assets to putting them to work is still in its early stages, and it’s one worth watching.

The next phase of growth likely depends on two things moving together: more assets coming on-chain, and more ways for holders to actually use what they already have. Equities and bonds are growing from different starting points, but both show the same pattern, low penetration, rising activation. That combination, rather than either number alone, is what signals where programmable RWAs go from here.
